Mouseion is part of a series of initiatives which aims to foster the development of critical, engaged citizens in the global South.
Mouseion’s principal role is to facilitate the development of quality education in the humanities and social sciences. Other initiatives in the series include capacity-building charitable work, working to help fund scholarships for students, academics and journalists, and collaborating with existing government and non-government institutions to build partnerships capable of delivering the highest quality educational products to new markets.
Mouseion will contribute by producing a library of textual, audio and audiovisual materials. Its products will be translated into local languages and dialects and each will be based on a key text – the basic building blocks of advanced knowledge. Rather than producing courses, Mouseion will instead focus on the classic works that have inspired fourteen different disciplines. Its products will take the form of detailed critical analyses that summarise the results of the latest scholarship and cover the historical background, the text itself and its impact on subsequent scholarship.
